At VLK Architects, I’ve been Practice Technology Director since 2019, managing our software accounts, developing standards, and providing architecture software training for BIM (Building Information Modeling), Bluebeam, Revit (for our Houston office), and others. I also serve on the BIM Management Committee. Previously, I worked at architectural firm Page, where I worked on residential, healthcare, commercial, and educational projects throughout the Americas, producing construction documents, while also serving as a BIM manager. During my academic tenure, I was interested in residential, sustainable, and affordable design, BIM, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). I was also intrigued with human settlements – focusing on methods to upgrade informal settlements, or slums. As part of my doctorate, I conducted research exploring BIM and GIS capabilities for informal housing upgrade interventions in settlements along the U.S.-Mexico border, referred to as the Colonias. During my master’s studies in Turkey at Middle East Technical University, I researched the concepts of flexibility, adaptability, and typological variety in multi-family residential design. In addition, at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands I studied sustainable design principles in multi-family residential design.
